Sanatorium Naftalan

Naftalan therapeutic oil reserves are located in the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus, south-east of Ganja. Here is the only oil reserves in the world with healing properties. Marco Polo had talked about producing oil from Naftalan for use treatment of skin illnesses.

Naftalan oil reserves belong to Maykop sediments. Seven oil horizons have been discovered here, but only two of them have healing oil. It is black olive-colored, has a good aroma, contains a large amount of naphtha acids (0.8-3.0%) and characterized by its high polyethylene of naphtha hydrocarbons. It is distinguished by its "non flammable" from the other naphthas.

Naftalan resort has officially been operating since 1935. The resort worked seasonally till 1957, started operating all year round since 1957.

Naftalan oil has a good effect on the organism and increases its general reactivity. Using oil for treatment affects to human body painkiller, anti-inflammatory and desensibilization, improves trophic and metabolism in the body, restores the conductivity of the nervous tissue, reduces movement disorders, and increases the feeling of pain.
